As the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off, wide receiver George Pickens has sparked major speculation after unfollowing the Pittsburgh Steelers on social media. The move has intensified rumors that the former second-round pick could be on the trade block this weekend.
Pickens, who led the league in average yards per catch in 2023, took a step back last season. Despite that, his big-play potential remains evident. Selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia, Pickens may have become expendable after the Steelers acquired star wideout DK Metcalf earlier this offseason.
While General Manager Omar Khan publicly stated the team isn’t actively shopping Pickens, the receiver could still request a trade. There were high hopes that Pickens and Metcalf could form a dangerous duo for Pittsburgh’s next franchise quarterback. However, internal concerns have emerged about whether the two highly competitive wideouts can coexist, especially given Pickens’ past chemistry issues with former Steeler Diontae Johnson.
Top Landing Spots for George Pickens
Several teams are expected to pursue Pickens if Pittsburgh opens the door to a deal, with the Green Bay Packers reportedly leading the pack. But they won’t be alone—four other franchises are poised to make a push.
1. New Orleans Saints
With two Day 2 picks, the Saints have the draft capital to get a deal done. Adding Pickens alongside Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed could revamp their passing game and provide a boost for whichever quarterback takes the reins in New Orleans this year.
2. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are in dire need of help behind CeeDee Lamb. With Jerry Jones hinting at “substantive” moves, Pickens could be a high-upside addition to the receiving corps—especially appealing since he’s still on a rookie deal.
3. Carolina Panthers
Looking to accelerate quarterback Bryce Young’s development, the Panthers could use a go-to receiver. With Adam Thielen nearing retirement and young receivers like Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker still unproven, Pickens would give Carolina a true WR1 presence.
4. Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals already grabbed Marvin Harrison Jr. in last year’s draft but still need to deepen their receiver room. Pairing Pickens with Harrison Jr., tight end Trey McBride, and running back James Conner could give Kyler Murray a dynamic, well-rounded offense.
