Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg has surprised fans by not immediately declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft. Despite being the projected No. 1 overall pick, Flagg reflected on his time at Duke, praising the “brotherhood” and connections he made during his freshman season.
Flagg’s Thoughts on Duke
“The brotherhood is just the trust and connection that comes with knowing there are other guys who have walked the same path before you,” Flagg said. “You have the resources and the ability to do what they did. Just having that trust, knowing you’re not the first to do it, and if you ever need help, there are alums who’ve reached out and made me aware they’re there for me if I ever need anything.”
Evaluating His Options
When asked about his decision on the NBA draft, Flagg added, “I think, kind of what you said, just evaluating and reflecting. It was an incredible year. I met so many incredible people and built relationships that I’ll have for the rest of my life. Now, I just think it’s time to reflect, take a couple of days, a week, a month-whatever it is for me-and talk to my parents, talk to my coaches, and just really decide what’s best for me.”
Historic Season
Flagg’s freshman season was historic. He became the fourth freshman to win the Wooden Award for the 2025 Men’s National Player of the Year and was also named both the ACC Player and Rookie of the Year. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks, while shooting 48.1% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc, and 84.0% from the free-throw line.
What’s Next?
Flagg’s decision on whether to enter the NBA draft or return to Duke for another year remains uncertain. Fans and analysts alike will be eagerly waiting to see what he decides.
