The Detroit Lions have received some disappointing news as they head into the offseason. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions’ director of scouting advancement, Mike Martin, is leaving the team to take a job as the general manager at Notre Dame.
Martin was a key member of the Lions’ front office and played a significant role in helping to rebuild the team’s roster. His departure is a significant loss for the Lions, but the team still has general manager Brad Holmes at the helm.
On a more positive note, the Lions have promoted linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator, replacing Aaron Glenn who left to become the head coach of the New York Jets. Sheppard had other opportunities to leave the Lions, but chose to stay with the team due to his strong relationship with head coach Dan Campbell.
