Myles Garrett, the Cleveland Browns’ star defensive end, has revealed that he sought advice from NBA legend LeBron James before requesting a trade from the team. Garrett, who has been with the Browns since 2017, announced his desire to leave the team in search of a championship contender.
In an interview on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Garrett explained that he wanted to know about LeBron’s thought process when he left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat in 2010. Garrett sought LeBron’s counsel to ensure he was making a logical decision and to gain insight into what a transition like this would entail.
LeBron, who is a big Browns fan, wasn’t disappointed with Garrett’s decision. Instead, he reached out to Garrett to discuss his feelings and offer support. Garrett appreciated LeBron’s willingness to listen and provide guidance, given his own experiences with high-profile departures.
Garrett’s decision to request a trade comes after a disappointing 3-14 season with the Browns. Despite his individual success, including being named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, Garrett feels that the team isn’t aligned with his goals of winning a championship. He hopes to join a contender and make a meaningful impact in the league.
