A former Pittsburgh Steelers player has made shocking claims about the team’s coaching, specifically targeting former offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett. Derwin Gray, a former Steelers draft pick, stated that he didn’t learn anything from Sarrett and instead credited veteran players like David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncey for his development.
Gray’s comments come as the Steelers face criticism for their coaching and development of players. The team has struggled to find a replacement for legendary offensive line coach Mike Munchak, and Gray’s comments suggest that Sarrett was not up to the task.
“I really appreciated being with an older line like Maurkice Pouncey,” Gray said in an interview with Strive Sports Productions. “Shoutout to Ramon Foster. I still look at Ramon Foster as one of my mentors. David DeCastro, Alejandro Villanueva, Matt Feiler… We had guys that were there before me that did a really good job of training me to understand the maturity.”
Gray’s comments are a damning indictment of Sarrett’s coaching abilities, and they highlight the Steelers’ need to improve their coaching and development of players. With the team facing a critical offseason, Gray’s comments are a wake-up call for the Steelers’ front office.
