Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had a conversation with UCLA edge rusher Oluwafemi Oladejo at the Senior Bowl, sparking speculation about the team’s interest in the prospect.
Oladejo confirmed the conversation, stating that he approached Tomlin and asked him a question about the greatest football player he had coached. This led to a longer conversation, which Oladejo described as pleasant and insightful.
“I saw some stuff on the internet about that. Mike Tomlin is a great dude. He was on the field during our practices,” Oladejo said in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda. “I’m a pretty extroverted guy, I communicate a lot, so I just said what’s up to him, I asked him a few questions about football.”
Oladejo’s conversation with Tomlin has fueled rumors about the Steelers’ interest in drafting him. The UCLA edge rusher had a productive college career, recording 238 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, one forced fumble, and three fumbles recovered.
Despite being considered a raw prospect due to his late position change from inside linebacker to edge rusher, Oladejo has significant upside. Kyle Crabbs of the 33rd Team praised Oladejo’s potential, stating that he is a “promising bundle of clay” for his future NFL coaches.
The Steelers’ interest in Oladejo is likely due to their need for edge rushers. With the team’s pass rush struggling last season, drafting a talented prospect like Oladejo could help address this issue.
