Former Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champion and assistant coach Joey Porter Sr. has called out Steelers fans, labeling them as “spoiled” due to the team’s consistent success under Mike Tomlin. Porter believes that fans have unrealistic expectations, leading to criticism of Tomlin despite his impressive tenure.
Porter stated, “That’s just the price of doing business in Pittsburgh… I’m sorry that we’re not sorry that we’re spoiled to a point where 10 games ain’t good enough.” He emphasized that Tomlin is not on the hot seat, contrary to fan sentiment, and that owner Art Rooney values Tomlin’s coaching abilities.
The Steelers’ recent playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens extended their postseason winless streak to eight years, with Tomlin joining a group of coaches who have lost six or more consecutive playoff games. Despite this, Porter defended Tomlin, attributing the criticism to a “Pittsburgh thing” that occurs every year.
