In a historic performance, Kentucky Wildcats center Amari Williams became the first player in over eight years to record a triple-double. Despite his impressive stats, the Wildcats fell to the Ole Miss Rebels 98-84.
Williams’ triple-double consisted of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, which he achieved in just 26 minutes of play. This milestone marks the fourth triple-double in Kentucky program history, joining De’Aaron Fox, Isaiah Briscoe, and Chris Mills.
While Williams’ achievement is certainly noteworthy, he remained humble in the face of defeat. “It’s a good achievement to have, but I would have traded it for the win for sure,” Williams said post-game. “That’s all I’ve got to say about it really. Just wish we went out there and played better defense as a team, and individually, too.”
Kentucky coach Mark Pope praised Williams’ performance, saying, “The truth is Amari, we’re asking him to do so much and he’s raising up and doing it… He’s playing amazing basketball and he’s really stretching and he’s really growing and I’m super proud of it.”
Despite Williams’ impressive individual performance, the Wildcats struggled defensively, allowing a season-high 98 points to the Rebels. This loss marks Kentucky’s fourth in five games, and they will look to regroup and refocus as they move forward in the season.
