Nick Kyrgios is not holding back in his criticism of Jannik Sinner and his team regarding the recent doping allegations, insisting that the Italian’s decision not to dismiss his staff promptly after a failed drug test raises serious concerns. In a bold statement, Kyrgios referred to anyone who disagrees with him as “a potato.”
The controversy erupted when it was revealed that Sinner’s physio, Giacomo Naldi, had used a contaminated spray on himself prior to providing a bare-handed massage to the young star, inadvertently leading to a doping violation in March. The contaminated substance, clostebol, was reportedly bought by Sinner’s trainer, Umberto Ferrara.
In the wake of these revelations, both Naldi and Ferrara faced severe backlash, with critics pointing fingers at them as the key players in the debacle affecting the two-time Grand Slam champion.
Just days later, Sinner announced his decision to part ways with both staff members. Kyrgios, speaking from Brisbane, expressed disbelief at the delay in the team’s actions, stating: “I (pay) my team hundreds and thousands of dollars to be the professionals they are, to make sure that doesn’t happen.
So they knew it happened. Why did they wait five to six months to do anything about it? He kept his team for five months … that doesn’t make sense.”
In response to Kyrgios’ comments, one observer remarked that Sinner’s hesitance to sever ties with those responsible before March did raise questions.
To this, Kyrgios countered, “Well no, numb nuts my physio would have resigned on the spot if he embarrassed me like that. They were hiding it the whole time. Without replacement? lol can’t find a single trainer or doctor in the world? You are all potatoes.”
Additionally, Kyrgios condemned the entire situation, describing Sinner’s case as a “horrible” and “disgusting” incident for the sport of tennis.
