According to talkSPORT, the Gunners have set a staggering £50 million ($64m) price tag on Nketiah, a figure that reflects their valuation of his potential after he scored six goals and provided three assists in 37 appearances across competitions in 2023-24. This substantial sum is part of Arsenal’s strategy to balance their books and adhere to financial fair play regulations.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Crystal Palace have shown a consistent interest in the England Under-21 international. The Eagles have been monitoring Nketiah’s progress closely, recognizing his potential to bolster their attacking options. With Michael Olise potentially leaving, Palace’s need for a reliable striker is well-known. Whereas, West Ham United and Southampton are also reportedly in the market for a new striker, and Nketiah’s availability has not gone unnoticed. However, Arsenal’s high valuation poses a potential obstacle for these clubs.
In addition to the transfer fee, Nketiah’s wage demands are significant. Having signed a lucrative five-year deal in the summer of 2022, he earns well in excess of £100,000-a-week. This salary level is a considerable investment for any interested club, potentially limiting the number of teams willing or able to meet both the transfer fee and the weekly wages.
Arsenal’s decision to place Nketiah on the market coincides with their failure to secure their top transfer target, Benjamin Sesko.
