Kentucky basketball is heading into its final regular-season game with some positive momentum on the injury front — but the Wildcats will still be shorthanded against a powerful Florida team.
According to the latest availability report, Kentucky will once again be without Kam Williams, Jayden Quaintance, and Jaland Lowe for Saturday’s Senior Day matchup against No. 5 Florida at Rupp Arena. The trio will each miss their 12th consecutive game, leaving head coach Mark Pope with only nine healthy scholarship players available.
The Wildcats, who currently sit at 19–11 overall and 10–7 in SEC play, will host a Florida squad that has been one of the hottest teams in the country. The Gators enter the game at 24–6 overall and 15–2 in SEC play, riding a 10-game winning streak and having already secured the SEC regular-season championship — their first since 2014. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, with the game set to air on ESPN.
Kam Williams Showing Encouraging Progress
While Williams won’t suit up against Florida, there are encouraging signs regarding his recovery.
The 6-foot-8 sophomore wing has been sidelined since Jan. 21, when he suffered a broken left foot during Kentucky’s home win over Texas. However, during his weekly radio show, Mark Pope shared an optimistic update on Williams’ recovery.
According to Pope, Williams has started running again and recently participated in a non-contact skill workout. That progress continued during Thursday’s practice, when the coaching staff planned to gradually reintroduce him to team activities.
Pope explained that the staff is being cautious as Williams ramps up his workload. The key question now is how his foot will respond once he returns to full-speed basketball activities.
Before suffering the injury, Williams had started Kentucky’s previous three games, making his absence even more noticeable during the Wildcats’ recent stretch.
SEC Tournament Could Be the Target
With Williams officially ruled out against Florida, attention now shifts toward next week’s SEC Tournament in Nashville.
Kentucky’s first game in the tournament hasn’t been determined yet, but Pope indicated that a postseason return for Williams remains possible if his recovery continues to progress well.
Another injured Wildcat, Jayden Quaintance, is also still working toward a return — though his timeline appears less certain.
The 6-foot-10 sophomore forward, who transferred from Arizona State, has been limited to just four games this season due to swelling in his surgically repaired knee. Quaintance originally suffered a torn ACL in February 2025, and his last appearance for Kentucky came on Jan. 7.
Pope acknowledged that Williams is currently closer to returning than Quaintance.
Lowe Out for the Season
Meanwhile, Jaland Lowe’s season has officially ended. The junior guard underwent surgery on his right shoulder after dealing with multiple injuries throughout the year.
Despite the injuries to key players, Pope has not yet used freshman Braydon Hawthorne or junior Reece Potter, both of whom are preserving their redshirt seasons.
Looking Ahead to March
After the SEC Tournament concludes, Kentucky will turn its focus toward the NCAA Tournament. The March Madness bracket will be announced March 15, with the Round of 64 beginning March 19.
For now, Kentucky will try to close the regular season on a strong note against one of the SEC’s toughest teams — while hoping reinforcements like Kam Williams could return just in time to help the Wildcats make a postseason push.
