Former Kentucky guard Lamont Butler has suffered a devastating setback that’s left both the College Park Skyhawks and Big Blue Nation heartbroken. The former Wildcat announced Wednesday that he will miss the entire 2025–26 season after tearing both his ACL and meniscus.
Butler, who signed with the Atlanta Hawks’ G League affiliate in July, took to social media to share the gut-wrenching news and reflect on how quickly everything can change for an athlete chasing his dream.
“Well, this is tough to say, but I will be out for the season with a torn meniscus and torn ACL,” Butler wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I was super excited to start the season with the Skyhawks and ready to show why I deserve to be on this stage and more… One wrong tweak and now it’s a change of plans. God will be with me every step of the way in this journey of recovery.”
His emotional message immediately struck a chord with fans, many of whom flooded his mentions with support, prayers, and encouragement.
Despite the crushing news, Butler showed remarkable positivity and resilience, promising to face the recovery process with faith and determination.
“Please continue to send prayers for a speedy recovery,” he added. “Until then, I will still be smiling and spreading my love. See y’all next season.”
Butler had been expected to play a key role for the Skyhawks this year, bringing leadership and defensive grit to the team’s young backcourt. His loss is a major blow to Atlanta’s developmental plans.
During his final season at Kentucky, Butler averaged 11.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game, proving himself as one of the Wildcats’ most dependable two-way players. His court vision, toughness, and vocal leadership helped guide Kentucky back to the NCAA Tournament, cementing his reputation as a coach’s dream on and off the floor.
While this injury puts a pause on Butler’s professional ascent, his unwavering mindset and character suggest it’s only temporary. As one fan wrote under his post: “This setback is just the setup for your comeback.”
For now, all of Big Blue Nation stands behind Lamont Butler — wishing him strength, healing, and a triumphant return in 2026.
