The Pittsburgh Steelers have released wide receiver Rakim Jarrett from their practice squad, the team announced Tuesday. His departure follows the signing of veteran wideout Isaiah Hodgins, who brings more size and experience to the receiver room.
Jarrett, 23, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland in 2023, joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he stuck for two seasons. A former five-star recruit, he showcased his explosiveness in college, especially during his sophomore year when he posted over 800 yards and five touchdowns.
Despite flashing potential, Jarrett never gained much traction in the league. He logged just 14 receptions in two years with the Bucs and was cut in August during roster reductions. Pittsburgh picked him up for depth but decided to go in a different direction after just a short stint.
Hodgins, standing 6-foot-4, gives the Steelers a bigger target who can line up behind star receiver DK Metcalf if needed. Jarrett, meanwhile, will look for another opportunity to reignite his NFL career.
Even after the move, the Steelers still carry eight wide receivers within the organization, signaling a crowded competition for roster and practice squad spots.
