Kentucky guard Otega Oweh gave an update this week that had fans holding their breath but ultimately brought relief. The junior guard revealed that a turf toe injury sidelined him for about four weeks over the summer, though he’s now well into the recovery process.
The first sign of trouble came when Oweh was spotted in a walking boot. Reports later confirmed it was a minor toe injury suffered in practice. Speaking on the situation, Oweh explained:
> “I had turf toe. I’ve been out for like four weeks, so now I’m like two weeks in for me to get back onto the court. It was a good rehab process.”
When asked if he could play today if games were underway, Oweh didn’t hesitate:
> “Exactly. 100 percent.”
While he’s back doing limited work in practice, the coaching staff is keeping things cautious to avoid setbacks.
Oweh also visited the same foot specialist who treated Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Unlike Burrow, however, surgery won’t be needed in Oweh’s case — another encouraging sign for Kentucky fans.
With the Wildcats expecting him to be fully healthy for the start of the season, there are no long-term concerns. Considering the unfortunate news that Burrow will miss three months, Oweh’s outlook is a big sigh of relief for Kentucky.
