Tyreek Hill has spent his NFL career dazzling defenders and fans alike with his explosive speed and game-breaking plays. The Miami Dolphins star is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the league today.
However, not everyone is convinced that Hill deserves to be mentioned among the NFL’s greatest receivers of all time. That includes Hall of Famer Randy Moss, who made headlines recently with his brutally honest assessment of Hill’s legacy.
Speaking on an episode of the I Am Athlete podcast, Moss did not hold back when asked about where Hill stands among the all-time greats at the wide receiver position.
“He’s not even in the top 10,” Moss said. “If you’re talking about impact, that’s different. But if you’re talking about wide receiver-nowhere all-time.”
Coming from Moss, who ranks second all-time in career touchdown receptions and revolutionized the position during his playing days, this wasn’t a comment to take lightly. Former Vikings star Moss is not only an all-time great statistically, but also a respected voice when it comes to evaluating talent at the position he helped redefine.
A bold challenge to a superstar
Tyreek Hill is coming off one of the best statistical seasons of his career. In 2023, he recorded 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, earning his eighth Pro Bowl selection. His impact on the Dolphins’ offense has been undeniable since arriving in Miami, with Tua Tagovailoa benefiting greatly from Hill’s ability to stretch defenses vertically.
Yet, Moss’ comments point to a different kind of evaluation – one that prioritizes completeness as a receiver over raw explosiveness. Moss explained that his critique isn’t a slight on Hill’s athleticism or value to his team, but rather a reflection of how the position is traditionally judged: route-running, consistency, hands, and dominance over a long period.
Hill himself has previously stated his ambition to become the greatest receiver ever. In 2023, he boldly declared he was on pace to finish as the top wideout of all time if he continued at his current level of production. That confidence hasn’t gone unnoticed – but neither has the skepticism that follows such lofty goals.
