“That Was Embarrassing” — Practice Clip of Duke Star Sparks Online Debate
The hype around Duke freshman Isaiah Evans was sky-high this summer. But one viral practice clip has fans pumping the brakes — hard.
In a leaked video from a recent team scrimmage, Evans was seen getting cooked twice in a row — first on a blow-by drive, then on a slick backdoor cut that left him frozen. What made it worse? His body language: head down, hands on hips, and an audible “Come on, man!” from a teammate just off camera.
The moment sparked a wave of online reaction, and the internet didn’t hold back:
“That was EMBARRASSING.”
“This is the guy we’re supposed to build around?”
“If he doesn’t toughen up, he’ll get eaten alive in ACC play.”
Sources close to the program say Jon Scheyer wasn’t pleased, reportedly stopping the scrimmage and calling for more “urgency on defense.” Evans, known for his length, scoring touch, and swagger, has never been questioned for confidence — but now fans are questioning his motor and intensity.
To some, it’s just a freshman learning moment. To others, it’s a warning sign.
The Big Question:
Was this just a bad rep in July — or a red flag that Duke’s star freshman isn’t ready for big-time pressure?
