Summer practice is heating up in Durham, and if anyone thought Cameron Boozer would ease his way into Duke’s system… they were dead wrong.
Insiders say the highly touted freshman turned heads this week when he got into a fiery back-and-forth with returning guard Caleb Foster during a scrimmage — and refused to back down for even a second.
It started with a hard drive to the rim by Boozer, who finished through contact and let Foster know about it. Foster, no stranger to high-level competition, responded the only way he knows how — with lockdown defense and a little jawing of his own.
> “Things got real,” one insider revealed. “They went at it for a few plays, and Boozer didn’t flinch. He came right back, got in Caleb’s chest, and kept playing with that fire.”
Coaches didn’t shut it down — they let it ride. The result? One of the most competitive practices Duke has seen in years.
Even returning guys like Isaiah Evans, Maliq Brown, and Patrick Ngongba II were drawn into the elevated energy, ramping up their own intensity to match Boozer’s boldness.
> “Coach Scheyer actually loved it,” said a source. “He told the guys: this is what greatness looks like — no fear, no backing down.”
Fans are already buzzing online:
> “Cameron Boozer is built different. This kid’s a future pro,” one fan wrote.
“If he’s going toe-to-toe with Caleb Foster already, just give us the Final Four ticket,” said another.
It’s only July, but this much is clear: Cameron Boozer isn’t just trying to fit in — he’s here to take over.
And from the looks of it, the Blue Devils just might need that edge to chase another championship.
