Duke basketball just scored a massive offseason win as freshman standout Isaiah Evans revealed he’s putting his NBA dreams on pause to return for his sophomore season. Despite being ranked No. 38 in the CBS Sports 2025 NBA Draft prospect rankings and projected as a late first- or early second-round pick, Evans is choosing to run it back with the Blue Devils.
A former five-star recruit and the No. 13 player in the Class of 2024, Evans played in all 36 games this past season for a 35-win Duke team. He averaged 6.8 points per game and connected on an impressive 41.6% of his three-point attempts, earning a reputation as one of college basketball’s most dangerous shooters off the bench.
Even with limited starts, Evans had a knack for catching fire—scoring in double digits 11 times and putting up 16 or more on six occasions. His biggest moments came in marquee matchups: 18 points and six threes against No. 2 Auburn in December, and 17 points against Illinois at Madison Square Garden in February.
With Duke losing top scorers Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Tyrese Proctor, and Sion James to the NBA or graduation, Evans’ return fills a critical need—especially in the backcourt. He’s expected to step into a leading role on offense, where his scoring and shooting will be heavily relied upon.
While Duke hasn’t landed any players through the transfer portal yet and several roster spots remain undecided, the return of Evans changes the team’s outlook drastically. He’ll be a key figure next season, joining forces with a loaded incoming recruiting class highlighted by Cameron Boozer (No. 3 in the 2025 class) and his twin brother Cayden Boozer (No. 24).
For Duke fans, Evans’ decision is more than just good news—it’s a sign that big things could be on the horizon for 2025-26.
