Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope finally addressed the status of forward Amari Williams after the team’s dominating 76-57 win over Troy in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Williams, who suffered a back injury during practice on Thursday, played through the pain and delivered a crucial performance, finishing with five points, a team-high 13 rebounds, four assists, and one block in 25 minutes on the court.
Pope praised Williams’ effort and determination, saying, “Amari showed a lot of heart and toughness playing through the injury. His presence on the boards and his ability to facilitate plays from the forward position made a big impact.”
When asked about Williams’ injury, Pope revealed that the forward’s status is still being monitored. “Amari’s a tough kid, and he wanted to play,” Pope said. “We’ll continue to evaluate his injury and make sure he’s okay to go for the next game.”
Pope’s update on Williams’ injury may come as a relief to Wildcats fans, who were worried that the forward’s injury might be more severe.
As Kentucky advances to the Round of 32, Williams’ health will be a key factor in the team’s success. The Wildcats will need their star forward to be at his best if they hope to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
