Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope sent shockwaves through the Big Blue Nation on Thursday with a stunning update on star guard Lamont Butler’s status ahead of their NCAA Tournament opener against Troy.
In a surprise move, Pope revealed that Butler, who had been nursing an injury, is not only good to go for Friday’s game but is also expected to play a major role in the Wildcats’ offense.
“Lamont is looking great,” Pope said. “He’s had a fantastic week of practice, and we’re expecting big things from him tomorrow night. He’s been working hard to get back on the court, and we’re excited to have him back.”
The news sent Kentucky fans into a frenzy on social media, with many expressing their excitement and relief that Butler will be back on the court.
“YESSSSSS! LAMONT IS BACK, BABY!” tweeted @UKFan4Life. “This is the best news I’ve heard all week! #GoBigBlue #LamontButler”
“This is huge news for the Wildcats!” added @BigBlueNation23. “Lamont is a game-changer, and having him back on the court is a major boost to our tournament chances. #KentuckyBasketball #MarchMadness”
With Butler back in the lineup, the Wildcats are looking to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. They’ll face off against Troy on Friday night at 7:10 PM ET on CBS.
“Having Lamont back is a big deal for us,” Pope said. “He’s a talented player who can make big plays on both ends of the court. We’re looking forward to seeing him in action tomorrow night.”
The Wildcats are favored to win their opening-round game against Troy, but they know they can’t take anything for granted in the NCAA Tournament.
“We’re taking it one game at a time,” Pope said. “We know Troy is a talented team that can give us a tough game. We’re going to have to be focused and play our best basketball if we want to advance.”
With Butler back on the court, the Wildcats are feeling confident about their chances in the NCAA Tournament. They’ll look to make a statement on Friday night against Troy.
