As the Kentucky Wildcats prepare to take on the LSU Tigers today, there are several key statistics that could ultimately decide the outcome of the game. From rebounding and three-point shooting to scoring differential and home court advantage, here are four trends to watch:
Rebounding Battle
Kentucky has been dominant on the glass this season, winning the rebound battle by an average of 3.0 boards per game. The Wildcats collect 34.7 rebounds per game, while LSU grabs 32.9 rebounds per contest. If Kentucky can maintain this rebounding edge, it could give them a significant advantage.
“Rebounding is going to be huge in this game,” said Kentucky Coach Mark Pope. “We need to make sure we’re crashing the boards and securing those rebounds.”
Three-Point Shooting
Three-point shooting has been a key factor in Kentucky’s success this season. The Wildcats hit 9.7 three-pointers per game, while LSU makes 8.0 three-pointers per game. If Kentucky can get hot from beyond the arc, it could be difficult for LSU to keep up.
“Our three-point shooting has been a strength for us all season,” said Coach Pope. “We need to make sure we’re moving the ball and getting open looks.”
Scoring Differential
Kentucky has a significant scoring differential advantage over LSU. The Wildcats have a +234 scoring differential, outscoring opponents by an average of 8.1 points per game. In contrast, LSU has a +82 scoring differential, outscoring opponents by an average of 2.8 points per game. If Kentucky can maintain its scoring edge, it could be difficult for LSU to keep up.
“Our offense has been clicking lately,” said Coach Pope. “We need to make sure we’re staying aggressive and attacking the basket.”
Home Court Advantage
Kentucky has been nearly unbeatable at home this season, averaging 90.4 points per game at Rupp Arena. In contrast, the Wildcats average 78.3 points per game on the road. With the game being played at Rupp Arena, Kentucky’s home court advantage could give them an extra boost.
“Playing at home is always a big advantage for us,” said Coach Pope. “We need to make sure we’re feeding off the energy of the crowd and using it to our advantage.”
