Steelers fans may want to shield their eyes after the latest quarterback rumor. According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, the Steelers could be interested in former Giants and Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones.
This rumor is unsettling, as Jones has been underwhelming throughout his career. He has a career record of 22-44-1 and has never managed more than 24 passing touchdowns in a season. Jones has also thrown only 10 touchdown passes while chipping in 13 interceptions since the 2022 season.
Jones is a conservative quarterback who lacks big-play ability, making him the definition of a game manager. His lack of aggressiveness would also feed into Mike Tomlin’s conservative game plan, making the Steelers just good enough to earn another .500 record while falling short in the postseason.
Steelers fans should want no part of this nightmare scenario at quarterback in 2025, unless Jones is brought on as a backup only. The team would be better off running it back with Justin Fields or Russell Wilson, or taking a chance on a more polarizing player like Zach Wilson or Trey Lance.
