The Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns have been rumored to be interested in making a trade this offseason. While most of the talks have centered around Myles Garrett, another trade is gaining traction that could address the Packers’ defensive needs for years to come.
According to Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department, the Packers are interested in acquiring cornerback Greg Newsome II from the Browns. Newsome, just 24 years old, has put together three solid seasons in Cleveland before struggling in 2024.
The Packers’ interest in Newsome makes sense, given their need for a reliable cornerback. Eric Stokes is a free agent, and his health and performance are major questions. Meanwhile, Jaire Alexander isn’t the most dependable option either.
Newsome’s career stats are impressive, with three interceptions, 34 passes defended, and 155 tackles in 54 games. He’s also shown versatility, playing both outside and slot cornerback.
If the Packers can pull off this trade, it could be a game-changer for their defense. Newsome’s youth, talent, and experience make him an attractive target, and he could be a key contributor to the Packers’ secondary for years to come.
