A former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back has expressed his desire for the team to resign quarterback Justin Fields, but also hopes to see a more aggressive approach from the defensive backfield.
In an interview with a local sports outlet, the former Steelers DB stated that Fields’ athleticism and playmaking ability would be a valuable asset to the team. However, he also emphasized the need for the defensive backs to play more aggressively and make more plays on the ball.
“I think Justin Fields would be a great fit for our team,” the former DB said. “He’s a dynamic player who can make plays with his legs and his arm. But at the same time, I think our defensive backs need to step up and make more plays. We need to be more aggressive and take more risks.”
The Steelers’ defense has been a topic of discussion this offseason, with many fans and analysts calling for a more aggressive approach. The team’s defensive backs, in particular, have been criticized for their lack of playmaking ability.
While the Steelers’ front office has not publicly expressed interest in resigning Fields, the former DB’s comments highlight the need for the team to address its quarterback situation. Fields, who was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2021, has been mentioned as a potential trade target for several teams this offseason.
As for the Steelers’ defensive backs, they will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 season. With a new coaching staff and several new players, the unit is expected to be more aggressive and playmaking-oriented in 2025.
