After the Miami Dolphins played their final regular season game of the 2024 campaign and failed to make the playoffs, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill made a comment that heavily implied he wanted to be traded.
But, according to Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins reportedly won’t be trading the speedster, and thus Fins fans should be able to look forward to watching him this coming fall and winter. Pelissero dropped these comments during a segment on Super Bowl Sunday.
The Dolphins landed Hill in a stunning trade nearly three years ago with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he earned a Super Bowl championship ring during the 2019 season. The trade helped transform Miami from a team on the rise to a legitimate playoff squad right away.
Miami went 9-8 in 2022 and made the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season as Hill put up the type of numbers he never produced with the Chiefs. That year, he caught 119 passes and registered 1,710 receiving yards, both of which were career-highs.
The following year, he led the NFL in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns as the Dolphins finished with an 11-6 record, as well as the second-most points scored. They were arguably football’s most explosive team in 2023 thanks to the talents of Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who made up quite possibly the game’s best wideout tandem.
But Hill’s production fell this season, and so did the Dolphins’ fortunes. It was the first time in his career that he wasn’t selected for the Pro Bowl.
One factor in Hill’s depressed offensive output in 2024 was the third diagnosed concussion of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s career, which forced Tagovailoa to miss four games early in the season. During that time, Miami struggled mightily on offense.
If healthy, the Dolphins should still be competitive in 2025, especially since young running back De’Von Achane showed plenty of growth in 2024 as a dual-threat player.
He ran for 907 yards and added 78 receptions for 592 yards, which allowed him to score a total of 12 touchdowns from scrimmage.
