A report from Jay Glazer of Fox NFL Sunday states that former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, now the head coach of the New York Jets, and general manager Darren Mougey are moving on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Glazer shared that Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. This decision may result in Rodgers becoming a June 1 designation, allowing him to sign with any team in the league on March 12 if he decides to continue playing.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport is also reporting that the Jets and Rodgers are parting ways, stating that the two are going “in different directions that will result in a split.”
In January, Glenn spoke about Rodgers’ future with the team, stating that they would make decisions accordingly after discussing with Rodgers. However, it seems that the team has now decided to move on from the veteran quarterback.
Rodgers’ future has been uncertain for months, with the player openly contemplating his options, including a desire to remain with the Jets if they’d have him. It will be interesting to see which teams might be interested in picking Rodgers up, but finding a new home might not be easy.
