The Detroit Lions have agreed to terms with former Stanford head coach David Shaw on a multi-year deal. Shaw will serve as the team’s passing game coordinator, reuniting him with new offensive coordinator John Morton.
Shaw, 52, has a long history with Morton, having worked together with the Raiders (1998-2001) and the Broncos (2024). Shaw was a senior personnel executive with the Broncos last season and even interviewed for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching job that ultimately went to former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
As Stanford’s head coach from 2011-2022, Shaw compiled a 96-54 record and won three Pac-12 conference titles. He also has NFL experience as an assistant coach with the Eagles, Raiders, and Ravens.
Shaw’s hiring is a significant addition to the Lions’ coaching staff, which has undergone significant changes this offseason.
