Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II has put to rest rumors surrounding the potential trade of star pass-rusher T.J. Watt.
In an exclusive interview with ESPN, Rooney II stated that trading Watt is “unlikely,” citingthe player’s importance to the team’s defense.
“T.J. is a key member of our team, and we value his contributions greatly,” Rooney II said. “We’re not looking to trade him, and I think it’s unlikely that we would consider any offers.”
The news will come as a relief to Steelers fans, who have grown accustomed to Watt’s dominance on the field. The 27-year-old pass-rusher has recorded 47.5 sacks in his five-year career, including a career-high 22.5 sacks in 2021.
Despite the team’s commitment to Watt, there have been rumors circulating about potential trade talks. However, Rooney II’s statement appears to have put those rumors to rest.
“T.J. is a cornerstone of our defense, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to make plays for us,” Rooney II said.
The Steelers are set to begin their offseason program in the coming weeks, and Watt is expected to be a full participant.
