The Miami Dolphins must add two guards before the 2025 NFL season, whether it’s at the 2025 NFL Draft or free agency.
Guards don’t have to cost $100 million, as Robert Hunt did.
(That’s why Hunt is on the Carolina Panthers now, and not the Dolphins.)
Robert Jones and Liam Eichenberg worked hard but were graded by Pro Football Focus as the 59th and 69th-best guards in the NFL in 2024.
Keeping Jones, Eichenberg or Isiah Wynn as a third guard for 2025 makes sense.
But Miami must add two starting guards. Ideally, they’ll be mobile and athletic but also mean butt-kickers.
Miami needs more mean (on the field) butt-kickers.
Eichenberg had nine penalties and allowed 29 pressures last year, per PFF.
Jones had seven penalties and allowed 28 pressures last year, per PFF.
Miami should absolutely draft at least one guard in the first three rounds, ideally first two rounds, of the NFL Draft in April.
But Miami should also try to add at least one of these guards, who are slated to be free agents:
Trey Smith, 25, Chiefs.
