Pittsburgh Steelers’ owner Art Rooney II is facing backlash after making comments about the team’s struggles that many are calling “out-of-touch.”
In an interview with a local newspaper, Rooney II seemed to downplay the team’s disappointing season, saying, “We’re not as bad as our record shows. We’ve been in every game, and we’ve just had some tough breaks.”
However, many fans and pundits are calling foul, saying that Rooney II is not acknowledging the deeper issues that have plagued the team all season.
“Art Rooney II is completely out of touch with reality,” said Steelers’ fan and blogger, Mike Prisuta. “He thinks that just because we’ve been in some close games, that means we’re not that far off. But the truth is, we’ve been getting blown out by good teams, and we’re not even competitive.”
Others are criticizing Rooney II for not taking enough responsibility for the team’s struggles.
“Art Rooney II needs to stop making excuses and start making changes,” said NFL analyst, Ian Rapoport. “He’s the owner of the team, and it’s his job to make sure that the Steelers are competitive. Instead, he’s just blaming bad luck and pretending like everything is okay.”
The controversy has sparked a heated debate among Steelers’ fans, with some defending Rooney II’s comments and others calling for him to sell the team.
What do you think, Steelers Nation? Are Art Rooney II’s comments out of touch, or is he just trying to stay positive?
