In a move aimed at salvaging a disappointing season, the Cleveland Browns have parted ways with their head coach, Kevin Stefanski.
The decision, announced by the team’s ownership group on Monday morning, comes on the heels of a dismal 2-7 start to the season. Despite high expectations following a promising offseason, the Browns have struggled to find consistency, with Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals serving as the final straw.
“We appreciate Kevin’s contributions to our organization, but we feel it’s in the best interest of the team to make a change,” said Browns owner Jimmy Haslam. “We’re committed to finding a solution that will help us compete at a higher level.”
Stefanski, who was hired in 2020, led the Browns to a playoff appearance in his first season but has been unable to replicate that success. The team’s struggles on both sides of the ball, combined with a lack of cohesion and discipline, ultimately led to his dismissal.
Defensive coordinator Joe Woods will take over as interim head coach, with the team beginning its search for a permanent replacement immediately.
“We’re confident that Joe will provide stability and leadership during this transition period,” said Haslam. “We’re committed to finding the right person to lead our team and restore the level of excellence our fans deserve.”
The Browns will face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, looking to snap a four-game losing streak and begin the process of rebuilding their season.
