Fresh from their late, late win against Leicester on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal host Paris Saint-Germain tonight in the pick of this week’s Champions League ties.
And Mikel Arteta has received a decent injury boost ahead of the clash against the club where he spent 18 months as a player before moving to England – with summer signings Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori both training on Monday.
PSG, meanwhile, have left star attacker Ousmane Dembele at home in another boost to the Gunners’ hopes of adding three points to the one earned away to Atalanta during matchday one.
Here are the big tales to keep an eye on ahead of tonight’s big clash.Arsenal have been boosted by the return of Mikel Merino to training, with Riccardo Calafiori also shaking off fears of an injury.
The Gunners host PSG on Tuesday night in their second Champions League game of the season. Calafiori appeared to injure himself celebrating one of his team-mate’s goals in Saturday’s win over Leicester.
Merino hurt a shoulder n a freak accident in his first training sessions and is yet to make his debut. But he now appears to be nearing a return to full fitness having begun light training last week.
Emotional Calafiori
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed Riccardo Calafiori was “a bit emotional” after an injury scare during Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Leicester City on the weekend – though he confirmed the Italian is “in contention” to play against PSG.
The Gunners only just signed the left-back from Bologna for around £42million this summer and he has impressed so far – netting a thunderbolt in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City – so there was understandable concern when he picked up a knee problem against the Foxes.
