Arsenal enjoyed a very busy transfer deadline day last Friday with the main piece of business being the addition of 29-year-old Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.
Mikel Arteta was notably in the market for a new winger all summer to provide competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. It went down to the very last hour but the Arsenal manager finally got his man after being reunited with Sterling. The pair worked together during their time at Manchester City.
The English international moves to North London on a straight loan, with no option/obligation to buy. It’s well known Raheem Sterling wasn’t the Gunners main target, however an opportunity presented itself late in the window and Mikel Arteta thought it was one too good to turn down.
The majority of details of this transfer have already been revealed, apart from one key bit of information which all Arsenal fans are waiting for… which shirt number will Raheem Sterling wear this season?
Following the departures of Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah this summer they leave behind the numbers 10 and 14 respectively. Other shirt numbers that are currently free are 13, 16, 21 and 31.
It’s now been confirmed Raheem Sterling will wear the number 30 shirt for the Gunners this season. With Gabriel Martinelli out-of-form at the start of this season and Leandro Trossard not impressing against Brighton, Sterling could be in line to make his Arsenal debut next weekend in the North London Derby.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, North London Derby with the Arsenal number 30 on his back… it won’t get much bigger than that for Raheem Sterling all season.
